Dualit Coffee Percolators
Dualit Coffee Percolators – When Only The Authentic Taste Of Coffee Will Do
When you think of coffee makers does the name Dualit come to mind? Probably not and that’s not unusual. When you think Dualit you probably envision that shiny toaster that is sitting on your countertop because toasters are their claim to fame. In fact most of the Dualit coffee percolators that are purchased are bought by customers who have already experienced the quality and reliability of the Dualit toaster.
The percolator follows the same tradition of good looks, versatility and reliability that all Dualit products do and is considered one of the finest on the market. Aside from turning out a delicious cup of java, the Dualit percolator has classic retro good looks with it’s shiny steel body and clear glass knob on the lid. It’s an attractive addition to any kitchen.
But you might be there scratching your head wondering what the heck is percolated coffee. Almost every American starts their day with a cup of drip coffee and that’s what we have come to understand as the way coffee is supposed to taste. But if that’s true, why do we have restaurants or coffee shops or even donut shops that serve a cup of java that we think is so much better than the stuff at home? Can it truly be just the brand of grind?
Well it could be the way it’s brewed. Think about this for a moment and see if it doesn’t make sense.
With drip coffee warm (not boiling) water is pumped up to the basket and allowed to drip down on the coffee. The water seeps through the grind then through the filter and into the carafe. That’s it. That water has one chance to grab some flavor from the grind and that’s all. That’s why drip coffee is ground so fine. The idea of a fine grind is that the water has a better chance to absorb flavor and caffeine if there are more “sides” of the bean exposed. If you used a medium or coarse grind in a drip machine you would get a watery brown liquid with no taste.
Percolated coffee takes a different approach. Medium grind coffee is placed in a metal perforated basket. The basket slides over a percolator stem that runs from the base of the pot up through the basket. Water is boiled and rises through the stem, bounces off the glass knob on the lid and then seeps into the coffee basket. The water then drips to the bottom of the pot where it is boiled again and again sent up the stem.
The difference here is the fact that the water is exceptionally hotter when it mixes with the grind and it mixes more than once. This extracts the most flavor and generates that rich coffee aroma that you associate with your favorite coffee spot. And the cup you get is hot. When’s the last time you actually got a hot cup of coffee from a drip maker?
Percolated coffee is the way coffee should taste. Don’t believe me; ask your parents or your grandparents. Odds are the only reason they have a drip machine today is because they couldn’t find a Dualit percolator when their old one finally gave out.
Dualit offers the perfect solution with its one and a half liter percolator. Attractive, cordless for easy serving on the table, and fast brewing, this is an excellent way to bring the authentic taste of coffee to your home.
